Elemental Season 1 - Day 33
"Lay a foundation."
If you are going to build back, you need to lay a foundation that will be strong, flexible, and will be true.
That means you are going to need to get your priorities straight. You are going to need to think about your Christology first, and you are going to need to go back to that discussion again and again in order to make sure the ground on which you build this house is not on sinking sand.
I know, I know. It sounds like that song, “On Christ the Solid Rock I stand. . .” and it should. That song has some great theology in it. We do stand on the rock that is Christ, and we do need to begin with this understanding of who Christ is, what Christ is, and what Christ meant to do when he was here on earth, in the flesh. It means that we are going to have to spend a great deal of time in the gospels learning his voice, understanding his teaching, wrestling with what he meant back then when he spoke and what those words mean for us today. Jesus is our salvation, but he is also our Rabbi. We learn from what Jesus taught.
You have heard us speak of the process that Crosswalk uses in building our theology. It is always Christology before Missiology and then to Ecclesiology. This helps us to keep Jesus as the most important driver of our community, of our decisions, and of our hopes and dreams. It reminds us that as we understand Christ we understand what Christ would have us do and what kind of community we are supposed to be. We do this again and again, not because we have forgotten who Jesus is, rather because we are constantly seeking a better understanding and a greater hope for who we can be and what we can do. As we continually seek the heart of Christ we are informed of what our lives should look like!
So that is where it begins. With Jesus. Plain and simple.
Truly, it should be how everyday begins for each of us. Take some time today to think, pray, and search for the heart of Jesus to be your heart today.
No questions for today. . .
