Before we end this part of the series, and remember, there will be a second season of this series, I wanted to say something that I think is important. It is okay to doubt, to question, and to want to understand more about your faith, your God, and your community. Some people would want you to think that it is somehow being unfaithfu to ask questions, to wonder, and to look for new and dynamic answers.
I don’t think that is true.
One of the most interesting things about the SDA tradition is this idea of present truth. This idea comes from our early church pioneers and it led them to amazing discoveries and brought incredible joy into their study. They relied on the idea that God is still moving, still speaking and there is a great deal more for us to learn. This kept them curious, kept them questioning, and kept their faith alive and moving forward.
That is the kind of faith that I want. But it won’t happen if I live my life of faith as if every answer to every question has already been discovered, and there is nothing new to learn. We don’t have a corner on the market on truth, rather, we are constantly seeking and searching for what God would have us know through the self-revelation that God has given us and continues to give us in this world.
Our lives are involved in the search for who God is. The more we pretend that all those questions are answered, the less interested we are in our faith. If these answers are just sitting on some wikipedia page somewhere, then we will only visit them when we need a reference, rather than living them every day and with every breath we take.
Question.
Doubt.
Hope.
And be faithful through it all, hoping and believing that the Holy Spirit will lead you to all truth.
Have a great day, and I pray that your search will lead to more interesting questions!
