Raising the Next Generation of Worship Leaders

Momentum Worship is Crosswalk's student worship ministry for 5th grade through high school students who have a passion for Jesus and a desire to use their musical gifts to lead others in worship.

This isn't simply a band or performance group. It's a ministry designed to help students grow spiritually while developing the skills and confidence to lead worship in a modern worship environment.

Students serve within the ministry environment that corresponds with their age and grade while growing alongside other young worship leaders who are learning to use their gifts for God's Kingdom.

A Ministry First

At Momentum Worship, we believe worship leadership begins long before stepping onto a stage.
Our greatest goal isn't to develop great musicians—it's to help develop students who love Jesus, serve others well, and lead with humility, authenticity, and excellence.

Every rehearsal includes opportunities for students to grow spiritually through prayer, encouragement, and discipleship as we learn what it means to be worshipers first and worship leaders second.

Character matters just as much as talent. We want students who are teachable, dependable, and excited to use the gifts God has given them to serve the local church.

Training Worship Leaders

Momentum Worship is not a music school.

Students should come with a solid musical foundation on their instrument or voice and be prepared to practice independently before rehearsals. Our rehearsal time is focused on preparing to lead worship rather than teaching beginning musical skills.

As students serve, they'll gain valuable experience leading in a modern worship environment, including:
  • Playing and singing as part of a worship team
  • Using professional in-ear monitor systems
  • Performing with a click track and backing tracks
  • Learning to play with loops and other production elements
  • Listening and blending within a full band
  • Preparing music before rehearsal
  • Growing in confidence and stage presence
  • Leading worship with excellence while keeping the focus on Jesus

These are practical skills that will prepare students to serve on worship teams for years to come.

More Than Music

Momentum Worship helps students develop more than musical ability.

Throughout the year they'll grow in:
  • A deeper relationship with Jesus
  • Responsibility and personal preparation
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Leadership and servant-heartedness
  • Confidence both on and off the stage
  • Excellence in using their gifts to serve others

Our hope is that students leave Momentum Worship not only as stronger musicians, but as stronger disciples of Jesus.

Is Momentum Worship Right for My Student?

Momentum Worship may be a great fit if your student:
  • Has a growing relationship with Jesus and wants to serve others through worship.
  • Has a foundational level of musical ability on their instrument or voice.
  • Is willing to practice independently between rehearsals.
  • Enjoys learning and working as part of a team.
  • Can commit consistently throughout the ministry season.
  • Is excited to grow both spiritually and musically.

We currently welcome students serving as:
  • Vocals
  • Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Bass
  • Keys
  • Drums

If your student is brand new to singing or playing an instrument, we'd encourage them to continue building those foundational skills before auditioning. Because Momentum Worship is a serving ministry, rehearsal time is focused on preparing to lead worship rather than providing beginning music instruction.

Commitment

Momentum Worship is a ministry team, and consistency matters.

Our ministry season runs August through May, followed by one of our favorite opportunities of the year—leading worship during Crosswalk Vacation Bible School in July, where our students help lead hundreds of children in worship throughout the week.

Students who join Momentum Worship commit to:
  • Attending two Friday evening rehearsals each month
  • Leading worship for Crosswalk Kids one Saturday morning each month
  • Preparing music before rehearsals
  • Arriving on time and ready to serve
  • Being dependable teammates who encourage one another and represent Jesus well

Auditions

We believe every student has unique gifts, and auditions help us understand where each student can best thrive and serve.

Rather than being a competition, auditions allow us to build healthy teams, assess musical readiness, and create an environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

When you register, you'll receive everything you need to prepare for your audition, including audition dates, practice resources, and next steps.

Hear What God Is Doing

Momentum Worship students have the opportunity to be part of creating music that impacts our church and community.

This year, our students helped record and release "Big, Big Love," an original worship song created for Crosswalk Vacation Bible School 2026. Throughout VBS, Momentum Worship students led hundreds of children in worship using music created right here by our church community.

We believe God is raising up the next generation of worship leaders—and we'd love for your student to be part of the journey.

Listen to "Big, Big Love" on your favorite streaming platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my student need to attend Crosswalk to audition?
No. We welcome any student who is excited to grow, serve, and is able to commit to the ministry expectations.
Can my student audition for more than one instrument?
Yes. Students are welcome to audition on multiple instruments or for both an instrument and vocals.
What if my student has never played with a worship band before?
That's okay. Previous band experience isn't required, but students should have a solid musical foundation and be comfortable playing or singing independently before auditioning.
What if my student isn't selected?
Our goal is never to discourage students. If a student isn't ready this season, we'll provide encouragement and direction so they know what to work on before auditioning again in the future.
